You are not alone and helpless, through knowledge and exercises during the retreat we will provide you with the tools to manage your “now”. We believe that Depressed people are not damaged people, but are people that have a good biological system that is trying to help them survive. We hope you can come out of the retreat and see yourself differently. After all, depression is notorious for the feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. But if depression is an active defence strategy, maybe you need to recognize that you’re not quite as helpless as you might have thought. We will practice Gentle movements that unlock your body’s ability to find peace via your nervous system.
Our aim is for you to be able to put down negative thoughts and emotions such as guilt and depression, feel more comfortable and come away feeling more emotionally balanced and joyful with excitement for life ahead. Using various techniques you will learn how to manage and unload negative thoughts to live a happy and more positive life. We will help you to understand depression and anxiety as well as address it so you can get back to normal life.
According to Stephen Porges what we call depression is the cluster of emotional and cognitive symptoms that sits on top of a physiological platform in the immobilization response. It’s a strategy meant to help us survive; the body is trying to save us. In other words, according to this theory, it follows that depression happens for a fundamentally good reason. We are just stuck there. This retreat will help you find a way out!
We will introduce you to different disciplines so that you can discover and manage your emotions, your relations, and your environment. And help you reach a better understanding of yourself and your environment.

What Makes This Retreat Special
What’s special about the retreat. In one word “me”. I have spent a lifetime (too many years for my liking) researching and studying the ancient and modern strategies to maintain and/or return to health after illness. I understand suffering, not from a book but from life experiences. Three events stand out in my life. The first is that my wife and I had a very successful hotel, then the foot and mouth crisis arrived, they (the powers that be) closed the moors and we lost a year’s business overnight. With no support we eventually lost the business. The second is that after investing all our remaining money in a farm, the financial crisis arrived and as a consequence, we had to sell the farm at a substantial loss. The third was the loss of my dear wife after over fifty years of marriage. She suffered 8 long years with cancer. I’ve learned from these experiences, we learn from our suffering, it’s not something you get a certificate for, but you learn life’s lessons. Usually the hard way. When I’m doing research now, I feel like “a eureka moment” if I resonate with a new idea that appears to be helpful in my therapies. I would consider the retreat a success if you resonate with just one thing that you can take away and make your complicated world a little less stressful and you have made that all important first step towards living a happier more productive life. Life presents us with challenges, lessons that we need to learn from and move forward down our life’s path. The purpose of this retreat is to make that learning process a little easier.
